Cosmo Seifert- Remembering A Friend

In Loving Memory of My Friend, My Buddy, My Hamster: Cosmo
2006 - 2008

I remember the day I picked him up from the pet store. We were looking around many different places to find the right one. After hours of looking, we decided on a fluffy orange one. We bought all the essentials... the cage, food, the wheel... and we headed home. We set up his cage and filleit to the brim with bedding and added in his wheel and his nice, cozy house. Then, we released him to his new home. I remember the look on his face. He was so nervous. But, after time, he grew used to the place he would call home.

It was in this cage that he spent the remainder of his life. Next to my bed, each night he would run tirelessly on his wheel. As I would go to bed each night, I would see him just waking up from his long sleep, energized and ready to run. And, as I would wake up I would find him sleeping in his house he loved so much.

I always hated cleaning his cage. It is tedious work and it smelled really bad. Although I hated this work, it was worth it to see how happy he was when we put him back in his cage. He would walk around, inspect his house, and then dive in to the fresh bowl of food. He loved his fresh cage.
Sadly, Cosmo is no longer with us. One day, I came home from school and found him very ill. He was for the most part immobile, and stayed in one spot except for his head. He would look at us off and on, but mostly he slept. We hand fed him food and gave him some water. Unfortunately, he wasn't just having a little sickness.
I will remember Cosmo forever, because he was a good friend of mine. Even though he couldn't talk, he was there for me. He was my friend, my buddy, my hamster.
